Growth Groups - Binding, Biblical, Beautiful!
It is a well known
irony that the greater the number of people, the greater the prevalence of
loneliness in those people. A person can be completely unknown in a large
city, but not in a small town. We can easily feel isolated at a big party,
but hardly ever at a small dinner with friends or family. Each of us has a
basic need to be known, to have our voice heard, and to be cared for. This
can only happen in a small group.
There is one
type of learning that occurs in corporate worship, in the singing of songs, in
the shared liturgy, and in listening to a sermon. This is important and
valuable. But it is not a replacement for the type of learning that occurs in a
small group, where one is free to explore a topic in a personal way, sharing
thoughts and ideas with others and getting a personal response from other
members of the group. In a Growth Group, Christians come together around the
Word, at the very feet of God.
If you think you just might go ahead and join a Growth Group this
fall, below is a list of groups at St. Mark’s for you to consider. While each
group has the common elements of prayer, social time, and bible study, the
emphasis is different in each group. Every group has its own flavour and
operates differently from the others.
If you have a need
(around schedule, topic, group gender, location, or whatever) that is not
currently being met by any of our existing groups I humbly beg you to let me
know so I can begin praying and working on a solution for you. There will be
information and sign-up sheets available on Rally Day. Feel free to approach me
or any other Growth Group member or leader with your questions.
