Sunday School

Children are precious.
We feed them, we clothe them, guide them, comfort them and love them. then one day they ask a question we can't answer and it usually begins with 'why?' At Saint Mark's, we believe it takes a family to raise a child and we can help answer the 'why' questions'

Jr. Kindergarten to Grade 6

Children begin their Sunday morning experience as a large group.  This is worship time – kid style!  This is a time to connect with each other and with God through fun action songs, prayers, and monthly puppet shows.  We then break into small groups for in-depth, age-appropriate learning with a carefully screened teacher volunteer.

We currently use the Gospel Light Sunday School Curriculum.  This is a solid, bible-based curriculum.  Children learn about God through a number of different activities designed to reach children who learn in different ways.  Our goal is to not only teach about God, but to help children feel truly connected to God in their daily lives as they come to know Jesus through the Holy Spirit.

We offer four classes divided by age group as follows:
JK and SK
Grades 1 and 2
Grades 3 and 4
Grades 5 and 6

Service Projects

Children are led through a number of projects throughout the year to help them expand their horizons and learn how to “love your neighbour” as Jesus taught us.
Serve your church: kids take time in Sunday School in the weeks leading up to Christmas to learn parts in a Christmas Pageant.  The Sunday before Christmas, they lead the congregation in worship, sharing the Christmas message through drama, reading, and songs.
Serve your friends: one Sunday is set aside as “Bring a Friend Day” when kids are helped and encouraged to bring a friend with them to share in Sunday School.
Serve your community: we undertake a project which impacts our immediate community – usually a spring clean-up of a park.
Serve the world: kids take on a project to help people in need in other parts of the world.  We give the kids an opportunity to have hands-on involvement in this project.  For example, in fall of 2009 they will be putting together kits of basic supplies to be shipped to needy children overseas.

Just come as you are, any Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

Youth Group

Our youth program, “No Apologies”, is a growing and vibrant group that meets on Friday evenings from 7:30- 9:30 p.m. Our youth program strives to offer more than your typical youth group for, in their own words, “We like to think that we aren’t just a ‘youth group’; we’re a ‘youth ministry’. This isn’t just a place where we keep the teenagers busy while the ministry happens with the adults. Young people are gifted to ministry. Our group aims to assist them as they develop their gifts and serve others.” For more information, or to register, please contact Kimberley Moore or visit their website/blog at www.noapologiesblogspace.wordpress.com

Catechism Classes

Our catechism classes are designed to instruct and prepare Christians, both young and old, for Christian service and membership within the church. Classes are divided into two streams: adult and youth. While both classes utilize Martin Luther’s Small Catechism, the length of the course and assignments differ significantly. The catechesis of our youth, also known as Confirmation Classes, takes two years and includes homework assignments to foster a deeper understanding of the material. The course culminates with reception into full communicant membership on Confirmation Sunday in the Church’s calendar. Adult classes are shorter in duration (approximately ten to twelve weeks) and qualify adults, who are not transferring from a sister congregation or synod, to be received into membership. Adult catechism classes are also suitable for those who are not considering membership, but would like to investigate the beliefs of the Christian Faith in general or Lutheranism in particular. For more information, or to register, please contact Pastor Jeffrey Miskus by email or by calling (905) 278-2122, ext. 2.
